Came in a package of parts.

Switch has only on/off position. Does not rotate.

The one in my car that looks like this is the window wiper switch, but it is different as it has 3 positions.

What this one for?

Believe you are correct, wiper switch. Stalk turn them on, that adjusts speed.

Ok, so perhaps it is a model year difference?

I just dug up the one from my car.

Here they are side by side.

3 position switch on the left, black plastic backside, 6 spade connectors, largechromed brass retaining disc , low button.
2 position switch on the right, brown plastic, 3 spades. Small retaining disc, higher (taller) button.

Quite clear that my car needs a 3 position switch as the wire harness has 6 female spades.

In 74 they replaced the wiper speed switch on the console with rear defrost switch, it is indeed wiper speeds, three in all.
