What Spares and Tools do you Carry?

I am about to start using my CSI a lot more for runs to work and also some longer journeys, so mulling over what spares and tools to carry. So far I have planned:
  • Fuel hose and filter, spare fuel can in case decides to empty itelf.
  • Spark Plugs in the bootlid tray
  • Bulbs
  • Socket set 1/4 drive
  • small general tools inc screwdrivers, spanners (adjustable as a last resourt), pliers, mole grips, allen keys. Hammer!
  • Fuses and cheap multimeter
  • Cash and a mobile
What do to you guys carry?

I keep a water pump and a fuel pump.
I think I have a "universal hose"
Been in the trunk 10 years. Need to look in that box again.
I am not even sure the parts are correct as I packed the box when the car had a 3.0 and now I have a 3.5L...

The car is my everyday driver. Apart from the standard tools (red handled screwdrivers etc), I carry along a set of points and condenser in case the relatively newly installed electronic ignition dies, a spare quart of oil, rags, couple of nitrile gloves and my RAC card.
 
Carrying some spare fuel line is smart.

I also throw in some faston connectors, a knife to strip back wire insulation, and something to crimp on the connectors (vicegrips work OK in a pinch). Some spare 16 gauge wire and electrician's tape can be useful as well.

A length of coat hanger wire can come in handy if an exhaust hanger or something else mechanical fails. An assortment of tie wraps is also good for ad hoc repairs.

A handful of 6mm and 8mm hardware - nuts, lock washers, flat washers.

My rationalization is that I don't carry this stuff for my own car - it is assembled perfectly and never fails :razz:. But when I am touring with other people, their cars tend to fall apart.

Thanks for all of your help, my tool box now has some items added and others removed. I agree, preventative maintenance is best.
Where do I get a trunk monkey, I want one!

The question should be: What is the most likely problem you may encounter (cs&csi)?
These answers would be more reliable due to experience and not by the theoretical point of view.

Meaning btw mechanical/electrical problems with your E9..... :-)
 
kit bits

+1 belts!...had one go on a drive a while back.
It was the only time something went wrong on a drive...and of course it was the only time I didn't have my kit with me....doh! I wasn't too far from home and fetched it... was only a two hour delay thankfully. Since then, I have cell pics of the belts if I ever need a quick reference at a auto parts store in the middle of nowhere.....

My son and I have become very superstitious about having a good kit with us this summer. We have covered a lot miles to some very remote places (CA's Lost Coast is out there for sure!) that AAA or cell service is very, very questionable. Thankfully our coupe has been dead reliable and we have never needed it....(knock on the dash wood, lol!) Although, the kit's vice grips were very handy on our last trip to fix the tent's rain fly ;-)

Add Water to the list: for both man and machine...cuz ya never know...
