Can some one please tell me what the threaded vertical piece is for? Indicated by the red arrow.

I think it's to locate and lock the jack.

Thanks guys, that would be it. Because I have assembled this car from the pieces I bought it in I have never had the jack in place.

I suppose I had better restore the jack as well then.
