Wheel spacers

i am not, and haven't heard anybody using them. @vince is running 9" wide 17" wheels and they fill up the wheel well pretty good. don't mind having the wheels being slightly inset from the fenders as i'd rather not take the chance of cutting tires on the fender lip

Changing wheel studs to ensure you have enough thread after using a spacer is a lot of work. Even with 14” or 16” wheels they will look fine, especially with 205/70-14 XWX tires.

That would involve removing hub assembly, would it not? Might as well throw in some new bearings of going through the hassle.

If you use wheel spacers greater than 5mm you will need longer wheel studs and they will also need to be hub centric. I am not a big fan of spacers for two reasons: they place additional load on the bearings and they are more prone to come loose.

i wouldn't want to remove the rear hub unless i absolutely had to. what a PITA. that is one of those jobs that has so many, while i'm in there jobs - rebuild the half-shafts, replace swing arm / subframe bushings, add adjustability to the rear swing-arms, etc., etc.,

Yes, I would concur. I redid my fronts and as I got to the rear to powder coat the shield it started to become clear that this was another deep rabbit hole for another day. Stay away, @D Calkins - you have more pressing matters than this one :)

DEEP rabbit hole for sure. if the distance between the wheel / tire and the fender lip bothers you that much, but new wheels / tires, it will take you much less time.

Alpina 16x7 and 16x8. 5mm spacer on the front, 15mm spacer on the rear.

Fenders are rolled but not aggressively. Rear does touch ever so slightly under full compression, but with 10mm rear spacer it did not touch.

I have extended studs on the rear it .
You can install the original rear studs on the front hubs for an aditional 10mm I think. (Maybe 5mm)

Nothing worse than wheels sitting too far inboard...just looks awful, like an old person's butt in tight pants...no offense to any of us old fellas wearing tight pants....Spacers will be fine if you use the quality hubcentric and be very aware of torquing them and then rechecking after a bit (also making sure the bolts are getting enough bite of course). 5-6mm is nothing..nowhere near putting any extra strain on your bearings..huge spacers, yes, bad for bearings. Any pics? JamesE30 stance looks great!

I run 10mm front H&R spacers on my 635. 20 years with no issues. That car uses. Lug bolts, so the change was easy, use longer bolts. If the rear inset bothers you, get fatter wheels!
