I noticed on 2800's, the inserts have a pattern, but on 3.0's, they are smooth?

That true?

My 2800 has the distinct pattern in the insert area.

2800 vs 3.0

I noticed on GAHH's website, they make no distinction.

Maybe they don't make the 2800 kind anymore? All are smooth?

I think it is world upholstery that has the insert pattern. My assumption has been that the 2800 mostly got cloth/vinyl and the 3.0 got cloth/leather. BMW spruced up vinyl seats with an insert pattern. I quite like it. You just don’t see a lot of factory vinyl seats on e9’s.

I think all leather in both the 2800CS and 3.0CS was smooth, the exception being the pigskin leather with the tiny holes in the 2800CS. If it is embossed with the basketweave pattern it is vinyl. Many of the Canadian delivery coupes have the embossed vinyl instead of leather.

Below are pics of the original pigskin leather that came in my 72 CSi.

I re-dyed them a few times over the years before finally replacing them with new smooth leather kits from WU.

I know BEZ on this forum has been trying to find original matching style leather pigskin for years.

Door cards had the basket weave thru 73 when it changed to perforated holes. Vinyl seats also had the basket weave but as we received leather, I assume it lasted thru the 74 model year in other markets.
