At the bottom, there is a box to check that says "automatically parse links in text"....I'm not fully completely computer literate; what does that mean? I doubt that it is a golf reference...

If the "parse links" is checked, it makes any URL or link active and will take the user to the link address. If "parse link" is not checked it treats links as regular text in the sentence. Or, if you want to be technical, its adds html code to your message to make the link active.
