I just take them in and get them rebuilt. It’s easy.

I keep learning that it’s grounding, grounding, grounding. My alternator wasn’t charging my battery on my inaugural drive yesterday. Troubleshooting today revealed that the problem may have been that I have my newer Bosch alternator attached to a powder coated bracket, and the adjustment arms also are powder coated. This Bosch alternator grounds through its case. Adding a grounding strap from one of the bolts on the alternator directly to an engine bolt solved the problem. It also solved the other minor issue I’ve been having which was that the car was not reliably starting on first turn of the key. It now starts up immediately even when dead cold. When will I learn? Tagging @Chris Reber here since another example of the need of multiple grounds we have been discussing in his wiring thread.

i used the bosch al-46x - 80amp (amazon) and i put the e12 fan + pulley on it 12311350199 + 12311362465. i used the e28 bracket and the adjustable bracket with toothed nut. everything fit fine. one caution is that the e28 bracket also required changing to the e28 power steering pump
I followed Scott’s lead on the alternator and PS pump. All hooked up, somehow my PS isn’t working - something to figure out over the next few weeks. But yes, alternator is good
Mine died at Hilton Head - LOTA East. Got a spare and had mine rebuilt with more amps. Then had the spare rebuilt just in case.
