This week it was time to do maintenance on the 71 doors and windows. The only tools you will need is a regular Phillips, a smaller Phillips and a straight screw driver. It takes about 5 minutes to remove the door panels. Start with the small screws with the small finish washer at the top of the doors. Three screws on the arm rest. A flat screw on the window crank and door open handle. There should be large plastic washers under theses two. There is also a spring under the window crank handle behind the panel. Remove the door lock pull up. Go around the perimeter of the panel and pull the panel off gently releasing the tabs. Once the panel is off you should see a plastic liner. This protects the inside of the door panel from moisture. If it is missing you can use 6 mil plastic from Home Depot just tape in place. . Inside the door I used spray Lubricant, Spray dry lube, tacky grease, spray grease and an oil can. It will take about an hour to find all the places that need to be lubricated. Make sure you spray inside the door where the door latch mechanism resides. There are places where two pieces of metal rub each other and they are hard to see. On one back window I had to lube the window channel because the window did not want to go all the way down. I even adjusted the window track a little. Take your time and make sure everything works well. I also added panel sound deadening to the door three pieces for each door. While I was in there I painted any areas that had rust showing mostly at the bottom of the doors. I use Eastwoods rust treatment just brush on.. The final step was adjusting the door closing. Some of my doors where not closing all the way leaving a gap. You adjust the striker on the frame post it has about four screws I use masking tape to tape to mark it's original location and then move it a little until I got the desired outcome I needed. My drivers door was closing too tight requiring me to slam the door. After adjusting it the doors closes just by letting it go. Now not only do all the doors and windows operate perfectly the car is way quieter.
