I have a few of the early style motors and also the later ones with the stronger magnets if anyone needs a few. The later ones are better for the 74's.

Hello, the windows on my 72 CS are kaput! Could you recommend motors for left and right? Thanks tom

The sardine motors are pretty tough and can be rebuilt, I'm told. There are several threads here on that, use the search function.

The motors from the rear of an E28 can also be easily adapted to the E9 with minimal effort and will give you faster windows. Most of the window slowness is because the window tracks are dirty and gummed up. Cleaning and regreasing will make a big difference.

Yes, cleaning the old, hardened grease from the window tracks will speed up operation. Adding relays to the old motor circuit will also provide more power to the motors.

But honestly, it is hard to get reliable, reasonably fast operation with the old "sardine can" motors. e28 motors really do make a difference - even under no-load conditions, they just turn faster. If Hooptie needs to replace his motors anyways, he would be far better off going the e28 route.

See the website at: https://sites.google.com/site/kdelimon/windowmotorconversion1 for an explanation of the conversion to the later window motors.
