Hi everyone, I have encountered a problem when installing the window motor and transmission. When plugged in, the plastic gear spins independently of the inner metal piece in the transmission housing, resulting in the motor spinning the gear, but not actuating the window. Anyone have any solutions or tips. If you guys need a picture to clarify just ask.

Just search ‘sardine motor’

Those nylon gear transmissions are the weak point of the window winding system. My rear left window has stripped 3 transmissions over 8 years.

The best possible remedy is to replace the old transmissions & motors with 1980s E28 rear window motors with the integral transmissions. To replace them all will need 2 rear rights & 2 rear lefts. I have had my rear window motors converted to E28s. There are a few modifications to make them work so I had a shop do the installation.

You would think that BMW would have learned........................anybody change a transfer case gear on their newer BMW??? Aftermarket now in aluminum. I was wondering if anyone had the diameter and #teeth on the window gear to see if this transfer gear (alum version) can be modified to fit.

I was able to put a new gear in, problem solved. Does anyone know ow to adjust this spot for more clearance, I would want to shatter the glass.
