My wiper motor was not turning off and occasionally would activate by itself. I disassembled the plate covering the contacts as described here:

I cleaned the contacts, reassembled. It now turns off but only on the slow speed which is when the console switch is in upmost position. If in lowest position (intermittent) or middle position (fast), it stays on. Moving switch to Slow allows it to turn off.

Do I just need to take it back apart and clean the contacts again?

Perhaps the contacts need sanding/bending in order to touch better. Also, isn't there a relay for the motor that may be acting up?

From a strictly electrical standpoint, cleaning the contacts would not change anything. If the motor is running, the contacts are conducting.
I suspect it is a timing problem, and when the motor is running in the faster speeds it doesn't coast to a stop while the ground circuit is interrupted in the stop position. If it coasts through the gap, the ground is again connected and the wipers make another circuit.

Steve, I cleaned and bent the contacts.

Mike, can I fix what you have described?

I had already replaced the relay, I don't think it's the switch although I have an extra of that as well. Thanks.

same issue currently

I don't know if this helps, but my wiper motor seems to be doing the same thing, what I have noticed is this; if the car is running, or ignition is on and I go to move the wiper switch (to any position) it does not work at all- but if I have the key off and I hit the switch -typically by accident-then turn the ignition on the wiper motor starts running and I can't get it to turn off. The switch will change the speed, but it stays on. To stop them I have to turn off the ignition, then turn off the switch.

Chris- I hope this is not another "plug in the right wire" error that you helped me with the other day :-)

sounds like the power wire is run to the wrong place, or more probably, a ground isn't connected.

the ignition switch is fed from the battery and then connected to fuse 7 with a green wire (it is bridged to fuse 6 also). after the fuse (6), there are 2 green + black wires. 1 goes to 36 wiper motor and the other goes to 38 changeover relay.

from the wiper motor, check the brown wire that goes to ground. the green / black wire continues to the washer pump. from 28 washer pump, there is a brown / black wire that connects to the changeover relay. from the wiper motor there is a black / yellow + black / white that go thru connector 57 to wiper speed control 93. there is also a brown / red wire that goes thru connector 57 to 38 changeover relay.

the changeover relay feeds power to the wiper switch - green / black (continues from changeover relay) a black and a brown / black. (the brown / black also connects to the ground side coming from the washer pump.

so it is important to check the grounds and the ground side of the circuits. if those appear to be good, you need to check that the ground side of the relays is making complete circuits - therefore checking that the relay circruit is complete.
