Would like feedback on this E9 listed for Sale

I know there’s a lot I don’t know, about these cars,…& everything involved from acquiring them to maintaining them. That’s why I here!
 
if i was thinking about anything that is tariffed, i would wait until the Supreme Court passes judgement on the current tariff approach - it might well change in your favor. remember, the tariff is your responsibility as the importer, not the seller.

i will give you my thoughts on Oldenzaal - they get a lot of things right, but they gloss over a lot of little things. if you just wanted a nice coupe that would not be a concours car or a perfect CSL, they are worth considering - if the money is right. i think the work required to create a concours level car is not something that most want to pay for. these are things that many people here notice quickly ... but a lot aren't hard to put correct ... its just a pain to pay a ton of money for a car that they just didn't spend the time to put it right.

i was very cautious on buying a car with a red interior based on the photos. i went and saw it in person and i bought the car. the red looked bright and garish in the pix but was beautiful in person. okay the car is white and that is a classic combination. what i am not a fan of is a red interior with red carpet - a bit toooooo much. i like black / charcoal carpet with the red interior.
 
I would be wary of importing a red screwdriver to complete the tool kit. The Supreme Court may rule against the tariffs, but that will not be the end of it.

Be patient, the right car will appear. This forum will give you its expert opinion based on a forensic analysis. Ignore it at your peril.

Good point regarding the Tariff issue - That might come down any day.

Personally, I have no predilections on importing a car - I’d much rather buy the right car locally, from someone I feel I can trust,…as well as, forego the additional costs.

I currently don’t have the knowledge & discernment, to make an informed purchase decision, on something I see on BaT, eBay, etc. So, I’ve spent time looking for Companies that restore & traffic in E9s, to find who does things right & who has the type of reputation I can feel comfortable buying from. I spent lots of time viewing E9s on YouTube, Google searches, etc. In doing so, I came across the car & dealer which I inquired about above, along with companies like Oldenzaal, Scuderia Sportiva, Germany Exlusive, etc. I also came across a reference to this site, so I began doing searches here, on the companies above, to get a feel for what this community thought of their work & reputation. Aside from that, I did some reading/homework. Eventually, I registered for an account & got approved.

I have sent multiple emails to Oldenzaal & Scuderia Sportiva, inquiring about vehicles they have listed for Sale. I am yet to receive a response from either company. That’s left me feeling cold, in regards to doing business with either.

Long story short - I’ve been looking at E9s restored & for sale in Europe, because that’s where I was able to find companies who did both & had stock to sell. Further, I was trying to figure who did the best work & who I could trust, in making such a large purchase from. I only want to do this once (purchase) & I want to do it right (proper car)

I have been experimenting with photographing my Chamonix and this one was at dusk. It was way darker than it looks, actually getting hard to see the path in the forest as I walked back. But the iPhone camera made it really clear and colorful!

And like others have said, I think buying from Europe right now would be unnecessarily expensive. I hear you when you say you want to buy from a reputable company, but there are plenty of cars with good provenance and excellent restoration available in the US for cheaper. You might not buy directly from the restoring company, but that doesn’t mean the restoration is any worse.

I’m sure the blue/red one in California is amazing but if it isn’t to your taste, and you can wait a few months, others will come along.

In fact, at that price point, you are looking at concours-winning cars. Beautiful, but almost too good to drive around. You can get a well-restored “driver quality” coupe for half that, or a basically rust-free survivor for 1/3 that if you are willing to wait. It might have little paint chips and some minor wear in the interior, but it will still present very nicely and you won’t be afraid to take it on the freeway.

You can get the forum’s opinion on each one that comes up for sale, find a knowledgeable shop to do a pre-purchase inspection, and make sure you get a good one.
