Missed a few of these in the last few months and am still looking. Need this for the engine swap I'm waiting to do on my CS.

Make sure you install the shim and the gears. Available from bavauto for 4 bucks.
Unshimmed gears at high speeds do bad things.

#4 shim here? Doesn't the trans already have it?

What do you mean by "install the gears"?

Teahead- thats a generic google image search of a E12 520i M10 Sedan / Manual Transmission/ Getrag 245
Wrong tranny. The m3 and the 85 models used the right tranny but with no Speedo gears installed.

Ok I think I see what you are saying. I know that you need to pull the drive gears out to install the gear that drives the speedo gear. Are you saying that when you do so, be sure to purchase and install these shims? Are these shims something that one should worry about when installing a used transmission that already has a manual drive?

You pull the output flange and install the shim first and then the gear.
Likely you will find a big sleeve in there.
Guess what? Sleeve is same size as gear + shim.
Speedo gear goes in next down below.

There is a 5spd OD plus a 3.7liter metric mechanic engine out of an 1983 E28 for sale on the CCA classifieds. I think this might be the right trans if you add the speedo drive as SFDon has mentioned. LSD is the wrong one. But it might be worth enough in parts to justify the cost of the whole car.

Gary, I have a 265 removed from an 82 528e in good clean shape. I also have the bellhousing without the ports for the Motronic sensors as well. Can also include the shift plate, linkage, and shifter.
