WTB - 3.0 in good condition

Hi Tim,

Your thread has been hijacked by another value discussion. :D We will keep our eye out. Just about every publicly listed US private sale will land in this forum. We don't post every Ebay Auction or Hemmings listing, just the interesting ones (good or bad).

Since we're on the subject of valuations of coupes, have a shot at this.
72 Polaris CSI
Disassembled for rust repair, all rust repaired, primed, 5 speed getrag, FI 3.0, all interior and exterior parts tagged and bagged.

Second scenario: same car, painted (9 out of 10, not concourse), running (8 0r better) leather interior (8 or better) rechromed as neccesssary (8 or better)

Rex,

If you want an opinion on the value of your project I will happily provide my amateur observation-based opinion. In my opinion, if driveable - the scenario 2 car is the more, even with moderate unrepaired rust issues. I can point you to about five other bagged and tagged project to evaluate, much like you would with home sales. If you want to get the most out of your investment you need to finish the project IMO. Anyone who has sold cars that include more than 10 bins of items that should be on the car will likely tell you that they took a hit. If you don't want to absorb said hit, you'll have to hold out for the market or find the right buyer. Some of the most beautifully restored cars that have sold as of late came from a seller that took a hit. This includes the 'The Professor' mentioned above.

Hi all,

I have not sold the professor. Just listed it here on the forum and had a few rediculous offers. Bringing it to the vintage with a real small for sale sign;) Feel free to call me Tim D.

Agree, but that strays from his "original" and "stock" criteria. And the cost to acquire and professionally install both leather (original style very difficult to duplicate) and a/c components & trim pieces in perfect condition (unless you sell your face plate for cheap :D ) would probably cost at least 10k which throws the comparison out of whack.

a/c + leather in a CSi are some of those 'modifications' you could make to any coupe and increase the value of the car for all of the reasons you mention. i'm sure somewhere in europe BMW sold a CSi with leather and a/c. probably not many ... but had to sell a few.

Yup - 2263445 in my garage, CSI built in Oct '72. Sadly it is destroyed. It also has a sunroof. The seats are definitely factory, as is the AC, and sunroof, no head rests, power windows, and front lap belts. I wonder if any of the neighboring VINs have those options...

Mine has factory leather and A/C (no sun roof), power windows in the back but manual up front.
2262501 built on May 03, 1972.

Ben is a BMW retailer, no discounts as far as I know. His used parts are very expensive but if you need it, then you need it. His restorations are another issue, you need to look very carefully.

Tim D,

Robert A's car "the professor" is probably one of the best cars in that price range right now, very honest, well maintained and owned by an enthusiast here on the forum.
Price seems to be fair too, I was sure it already sold but obviously not. If I were in the market and lived in America I would definitely take a closer look!

Cheers,

I am planning a trip to see the Professor. In case it doesn't work out, any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks very much for all the comments so far.

I have what your criteria describes. Known to Houston members, currently in Dallas. Private message only please.

The professor is still on this forum for sale. Unfortunately, Tim D is having scheduling issues getting here to NC, or have someone look at the car for him. So for now I've got the Professor and Rudy (74 2002 Tii) coming to The Vintage in a couple of weeks. I will give the ad a bump to refresh it and hope to get some movement soon. Oh, The Alpina Rims are no longer included, so the price now is negotiable, a little...
