Hello to all Sellers, Wish to purchase a good working 3.45 differential for my 1972 BMW Bavaria. Can be a open wheel or Locker. Have a business address to ship to. Strap to pallet. Reasonable price withe Zelle or PayPal.

Thank you

I am trying to understand these three generations of sideloader differential.

Is the concern about the differential Don references due to the fact that it is a mid production case with 10 bolt ring gear internals with snap in flanges? Or that the ad says it fits models which used only a rear loader differential not sideloader?

The reason I am on this quest, is that my differential is long in the tooth as they say. I am going to pull it out for rebuilding. But I want to keep the coupe on the road and would like to get a second with matching generation and ideally internals so I can mix and match if needed.

I have a 3rd generation e24 lsd that was 3.07 and converted to 3.45. So it is a ten bolt ring gear with snap in flanges. I have been researching castings so I think I can identify third generation. My ideal part would be from a 633csi which would be 3.45 ideally lsd. I know how to identify the ratio, and whether lsd. I believe all with snap in flanges have the later ten bolt ring gear internals. If someone can confirm how to identify 3rd generation casting that would be helpful. Or any lead on parts appreciated. I understand this will not be cheap.

I believe all the Housing’s are the same for first , second and third generations.

And the first generation LSD units are tough ones to diagnose.
They are load dependent so simply turning the Wheels in the same direction and feeling for a lock up is not an indicator of LSD or not LSD.
My gear shop won’t rebuild those LSD units.

Second generation is the 8 bolt version with bolts that hold on the flanges, just like the first generation. My gear shop rebuilds those.

Third generation is ten bolt with snap on or clip on flanges.
My gear shop rebuilds those.

Larry? $500 is a very reasonable price for the one on eBay.
Did you contact him and ask about the condition of the bearings?

Hello sfdon, I had a bad misunderstanding with your description of this ad. I understood Ad title is 3:45, Pic is 3:64 and Description is 3:91. If the prognosis is good, What is name and address of your diff shop for a inspection and estimate of needed repairs. Then I will be able to ship a good diff one way!!!
Thank you.
