So. I pulled up at a wine bar the other day, and this couple was admiring my car - a bit more enthusiastically than I’m used to, but hey, I don’t usually split hairs about stuff like that. Anyways, I parked, enjoyed a nice Chenin, and came back to my right wiper arm missing. It had been removed carefully, and the paint hadn’t been damaged, thankfully, but yeah, the arm was gone. My best guess is those were scumbag E9 parts enthusiasts who saw an opportunity to easily acquire a 61611357638. Carl Nelson says he hasn’t seen one of those in 15 years, because he only gets them on parts cars. I bought something on eBay, but it turns out to be the wrong part.

Anyone have a lead on a new or used part? I can restore. 61611357637 is actually the part that goes on that side, but I’d take the 638 one too. It fits fine.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well that sucks. If you’d have asked me what was most likely to be stolen off a coupe parked on the street I’d have guessed a trunk roundel & bezel or c-pillar roundel.
If Carl doesn’t have one it may be easier to match a left side one for the eBay unit.
Good Luck!

Is it the passenger's side or driver's side?
Right (passenger) side. It had two left side arms though. Perhaps the prior owner had the same problem in San Francisco and settled for a driver side replacement, as it was perhaps available at the time. Now both sides are completely unavailable.

Driver side is 637. Passengers side is 638. They’re interchangeable for this purpose.

Sorry this happened to you. Not unusual for someone to come up and gush all over the Coupe, when I have it parked somewhere. Then try to tell me all about it. Most recently, someone was all over it and very enthusiastic and so wanted to learn all about history etc, then pulled out his phone and asked for my contact information. Really?
I don't think so. Cannot be too careful. I did get away, however, with both of my wiper arms still attached! ;)

Very sorry to hear this, hope Koopman's friend has one. This kind of crap is probably why I don't drive my coupe to run around as much anymore. I used to drive it to the gym on Saturday's and Sunday's taking all the back roads, I really looked forward to it. Now, I'd be afraid to just let it sit out there for an hour or so without checking on it on every ten minutes.

Now, I take the M5. I get nervous about that car too.

I parked the surviving wiper in the trunk. I drive the car too much to have to worry about it being taken. I’ve never actually used the wipers of course, so I don’t need them installed per se. I’ve put 8K miles on it in the last 4 months or so. I drive it. Can’t be stressed about it every time I park somewhere.

Interestingly, the person from whom I bought the supposed replacement arm, one with a different part number, and one that didn’t fit, insists that it can be made to fit, per BMW no less, with a couple of additional pieces. I don’t see how that can be the case. But that’s what she says.

Once again RealOEM is wrong. That wiper bolts on and you would need the spindle that it bolts to, same style as 320i. And it was never in the original Orange parts book.

Yeah. I’m just arguing with them because I asked for my money back, and they won’t do it. I’m gonna lose that battle, but not before I give her a piece of my mind.

Well, let them know you have been sharing your experience on the forum, that may sway them a bit

So, @Keshav, bless the man, came through with not one, but a set of correct wiper arms. And very kindly sent them to me from Germany via @kongsfam, who graciously arranged last mile shipping.

And now Wayne, my trusty BMW wizard, is bringing them back to life. They were fairly pitted, and badly refinished at some point. Rattlecanned, to be precise, in what must have been a gale-force wind. Looks like they’ll be better than new now, which is what he specializes in :)

If the seller is a US BMW dealer, the reason they won't take the part back is because BMW charges US dealers a fee for taking parts back from customers.

I’m a terrible photographer. Those things look way better in person. Brand new, and then some. And I now have a backup :)
