WTB alpina wheels for my 71 2800cs

No need for an apology Don :)

But I got a little bit interested, is a staggered set of closed-lug 16" Alpinas really worth $1700? or more?

I'm only asking because I have a set myself.

Cheers,

If they fit an e9 or 5 series I'd say yes. They need to be in good condition or restored. They are still worth about $1,000 with a poor finish on them. They are listed up to $3,500 when restored.

Markos, thanks for the information.
Over the last years I've only had my eyes on open-lug Alpinas for sale and I had no idea closed-hub/lug were anywhere near those prices in reality. Yes I've seen some extremely expensive closed hub/lug sets on Ebay but I didn't think anybody actually bought them for those prices.

Maybe somebody wants to trade their open-lug set for my closed-lug set :p

I suppose I'm hijacking another FS thread but if posters find value in the information...I think that the key to value is the size and offset. A 16" wheel with an offset that fit older BMW's will command a premium. By contrast, anything above 18" can be had for a much more reasonable price. The high offset stuff from a a three series or e46 etc is more common and brings in less. As far as the covered lugs go, a lot of people pull the caps and spray the centers black. Sometimes due to preference, and sometimes due to the cost of caps. They run about $400 for a set. Closed lug Alpinas look good with painted centers. Here is a two-piece set that I sprayed. I didn't want to pay for new lug covers. These actually only sold for $1,100 but I picked them up for $175.

I came across a nice set of 14" OZ/MSW wheels. Don't know how common they are but that's another possibility. I'd be interested to learn what these may be worth. I wasn't trying to sell, but I do like my stock wheels look too.

Do the genuine 14 inch Alpinas that came on the CSL's have a hole between the stud holes or are they meant to just have the 5 studs? The photo I have attached showing the Alpina wheel is from an unrestored CSL, note it has no holes between the studs.
Also, were they all offset on the CSL's?

Early CSLs had just the 5 bolt holes. Later cars from 1972 had the extra five holes. For purists the early ones seem to be the ones to have. From memory the offset is the same on both.
