Hey there!

looking to buy another part...

looking for left and right torsion springs for the hood. Anyone know a vendor that has them new? Checked with W+N and Stefan and some dealers.

my understanding is those are NLA so your only chance is on the used market. you can check the BMW system for 41611810317 + xx318 to see if any dealer still has any. worth a shot.

Maximilian shows they have in stock but I contacted them and they confirmed that they don’t.

I have a used complete bar out of a 2800. Just needs to be sanded and painted. Shoot me a message.

Suggest removing it & buy an extendable hood prop for under $50 or make one from a wood rod/dowel & put cane feet on the ends.

Check with @GK-E30M3. I believe that he has a spare. I recently sold my setup for $300ish. The entire unit weighs about 11lbs, and fits in about a 4’ x 1’ x 6” box.

I have also seen a few pics of coupes that have been modified to use the shock systems. one of the versions put the shocks between the grilles and the radiator - this was barely noticeable.

the only danger about the wood rod idea is when wind gets behind it and opens the hood farther, the rod can fall out and the hood can slam closed - risking damage. a metal rod that hooks into place is a better idea. the wood rod can work fine if the torsion bars are still in place and work somewhat.

Here is my setup. I sent posix a pm. The end springs seem to be ok. Needs to be stripped, sanded and prepped for paint.
