Hi all,

Just got a 1970 2800cs that needs a driver seat. Right now it has a period correct recarro that does not match the passenger seat.

Willing to buy one in any condition. If leather matches passenger, perfect. If not, I may think about reupholstering the two front seats to match. I have tobacco in the rear.

Will by a pair, but would love if somehow someone just has a driver seat floating around.

Thanks!

@Marty - there is a difference in 2800cs seats - early 2800cs seats have the tilt lever (to get into the back seat) down low. later 2800cs / all 3.0cs seats have the lever on the side of the seat back. so you need to specify which one you are looking for ... which version will match the passenger seat. i believe the change occurred mid year of 1970, but i am not positive. my '71 2800cs had the lever on the upper side of the seat. i will tell you that finding the early 2800cs seat can be difficult, but not impossible

My '70 2800cs was made on July 24th, 1970 and it has the tilt lever up high. Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search for a good seat.

Awesome, thanks for the advice guys. Looks like I have an early seat. Am willing to just change out both as later 2800's can have the new seat too (like you guys said).

Here's a pic of what I'm working with.

yes, definitely an early seat. looks like the recaro seat is in nice shape. have you given any thought to just getting another recaro and recovering to match? i presume its the early BMW recaro like used in the 320iS

An early 2800 seat with lower tilt level but with upper seat hard backshell having the chrome trim. Not sure that was standard.

I have all the pieces to put a driver's side together - but I really mean pieces - springs, old horsehair, tilt mechanism, backshell, headrest. No leather. Only to be considered if you would be recovering all seats.

I'll add that some members have mentioned that the stock seats aren't that comfortable for long drives so getting a second Recaro might be the better comfort option.

Though I've owned my coupe for 9 years, I've only driven it for a few dozen miles so I have no opinion on its seat comfort. That's a long story. Running issues, moving 3600 miles, and well, life means the car is still waiting for its new garage so I can do all the things.

the front passenger most likely needs new leather. Lots and lots of tears, and the leather is dry dry dry. I might see what I can do with it, but not against rewrapping that seat. The back seats are much better so will work on those before deciding on new leather. But am willing to 100% do the front seats with new upholstery as a solution path.

Can you show me pictures of what you have?

Hmm I could get another Recarro, let me get a picture of that, but no idea what model to look for. Part of my E9 purchase was aesthetics and I will say the original seats are beautiful so kind of why I'm leaning towards that. But good to think over.

i have a full set of blue interior although the fronts would need to be recovered. shipping has become so expensive for large / heavy things ... i would try to find something closer than Atlanta.

BTW i see in your 'new member' post that your recaro is one of the very adjustable seats. very comfortable

Not really looking for blue, and if in good shape would feel bad about changing colors. Blue seats make me want a grey exterior though. Brown and black or deep blue.

Here's the recarro I have. Not sure if it's vintage but it has a lot of adjustable knobs and levers. The wings come in to hug your body so good for some sporty driving.

my front seats aren't in great shape, okay shape - they would have to be recovered with new foam, etc.

Looks like it but be a Recaro “C” which is a high end model, and very supportive (as was just mentioned). A pair of these in good condition is worth quite a bit. Upholstered to match, I think these look good in a coupe.

Marty - here is a post for some tan seats in Maryland - i know the thread says the seats are sold ... that was a blue set. there is a post within the thread for tan seats ...
