I converted my USA trunk tank vent to the "Euro" system years ago and now use the blue plastic pipe for the door stop pins per Don. No smell.
The grommet for the trunk floor that holds the tube in place and helps prevent the fumes from wafting back into the trunk are still available.Drew, what do you have for venting anyway? Best to do what Steve did and convert to the Euro style and vent the filler neck out the trunk floor.
The grommet and hose going out bottom of trunk is for use with the Euro system that Steve mentioned above. It vents from just below the fuel filler neck. I can't imagine gas sloshing all the way up there and down the little tube even when driving on a track. But of course my imagination is little match for actual physics. The trunk floor grommet looks like a funnel. I installed that over a year ago. At the Homestead Speedway Brian Redmond Targa with the Everglades BMW CCA chapter, we had about 30 minutes to drive the road course. The BMW behind me told me I had gas leaking from the back of my car. That must have been gas sloshing out the vent tube on hard left-hand turns.
Dan--I eliminated the vapor tank and the bracket when I finally got the elephant ear spacer. That's in another post. I'm just concerned about the gas smell in the trunk when I open it.I routed the tank vent to the expansion tank and then through the floor instead of directly to the floor.
This might prevent the fuel dumping that @Drew Gregg is experiencing.
