Stupid me.

I had one of these in my 265 that I was planning on keeping, but I pulled it out to put it in a trans that I sold.

My thoughts were that I'd pull it out of my 262 that's currently in my car. Duh. I have a ZF.

This is probably more expensive than a used 4 speed sadly..... With such a dense population of vintage BMW guys in PNW someone has gotta have one laying around.

Maybe consider to buy any 4-speed gearbox from E21 or early E23/E24/E12 which are typically cheap as a parts donor.

I think the 2002 part is the same….the keeper is different and the gear that goes on the main shaft but the first part you pictured is the same…I think.

Probably a bit of useless info but when the first cars were fitted with electronic speedo BMW use to sell a `Taxi kit` for converting them back to mechanical speedo because the meters needed a mechanical drive. Doubtful they are still available of course but....

Interesting. Do you have any picture or BMW number?

Does anyone know if e.g. E28 gearboxes having plastic plug has the gear on the main shaft inside?

Yes. The one:

Have had GETRAG put them in for models with plastic cap hold by the screw?
I know in the past it was blind completely on the die cast.
