I’m guessing these are NLA and no aftermarket pieces. If not and they are available somewhere, please let me know where I can find one.

If anyone has a used one that they know works. That is fine by me too please let me know price maybe PM me with pic. I believe my high beam contact got fried from previously bad rewiring job.

Also, anyone know what this is for or what plugs into it? See pic. My friend with an e3 has an orange piece clipped in there.

And does anyone have the plug in switch for the back of the green fog light button for when I install the fog lights?

Diagnostic plug and has an orange cap. Fog light switch doesn’t have a plug just wires with spade connectors.
My green button has nothing behind it so I still need some sort of switch for the spade connectors (male or female) or go non-OEM I guess. Kind of strange there is a button for the fog lights but no plug that goes with it.

Well, it depends on what you have:
Up to '72 there was one common switch for the rear foglight (not on CSL) and the front foglights. Front foglights came as SA (Sonderausstattung), special order, with a separate harness and a relay.
This switch comes with four spades, +31, common and two S (switch).
If there was no foglight at all the blind cover was used.
From '73 onwards two separate switches were installed, one for front and one for rear, with three spades only.20251024_124803.jpg
There is an internal lamp installed, indicating fog lights being switched on.
E9 switches came with the silver ring painted around the cap. The one on the right without the ring, who knows?

Note the difference in mounting, left side is for E9.
The orange caps for the diagnostic plug you find here:https://www.cs-werk.de/cs-werk-bonn...fuer-bmw-e9/bmw-e9-diagnosestecker-kappe-9er/

....and if you need new plugs and sockets: ask TE Connectivitythumbnail_IMG_1517.jpg

And BTW, for which car would you need the headlights stalk, before or after facelift?
US-version or European?

Thanks Tom :) I was hoping that someone with call-in with more specifics, but in the end all will learn.

If the spade terminals are lost (cut, fell-off) it can maybe be at least soldered, and - what is more towards the solution - these terminals are widely available, so not really an urgent need for the specific plastic socket as being used one time for mount and easy the assembly plus provide some reinforcement later.

Thanks Tom and Krzysztof-- All I have is the far left plastic faceplate piece up top far left pic (blind cover since it didn't come with fog lamps). There is no electrical cylinder back on it with the spades. I looked at TE connectivity and couldn't find those. Can you post the direct link to the switch? It is for front fog lights I bought for my '74 E9.

Thanks for the link to the orange plastic diagnostic cap. 18 Euro plus shipping for a little plastic cap...WOW. I think that might just get some electrical tape over it. More concerned about fog lamp switch. Three spade it sounds like huh with the '74?

Still looking for the headlamp/blinker stalk. I heard it is kind of a PIA to install. I have the headlamps and high beams working but had to cut the white wire and there was a spot for a button switch similar to the green fog light switch that I can turn on and off real quick for high beams. Eventually I want to get the stalk and have it work as it should. Somehow the high beam portion on the stalk got fried. There we a lot of melted wires near the old headlamps, lucky it didn't catch fire. All completly rewired now with separate relays, etc.

i probably have a whole stalk / switch - i know i have multiple, but one comes apart relatively easily. i will try to see if i can identify which one that is (out of 5 or 6). i know that i have the original style and the newer style - the outer knob on the stalk is different ... the original one is glossy and the newer one is matte finish. what is your left side like?

Cool thanks Scott, Clinton Stokes is looking too, he had one laying around a while ago on an older thread and is going to get back to me. Let me take a picture of it tomorrow and post. I appreciate it.

Tom, I will try and identify the connector if I don't have to take the column off/apart. Is it in the engine bay or fuse box area?

Stalk connector is underneath the dash. You need to dismount the covers to find it to be able to verify which one you have on the stalk wiring.

you should be able to just drop the cover from the bottom of the steering column. at least on mine, with the 74 telescoping column ... maybe with the original type, you might have to take down everything. if i remember correctly, your car is a 73? if so, is the turn signal / wiper on the right?

this is the headlight switch for up to 1973 - N/A from W+N -

oh ... different animal. i only have 1 of those and i am debating whether i am going to change my wiring and flip mine over so the blinker is on the left side.

Wholly Molley...$705? LOL. Yes I have a '74. It may be a bit until I can start pulling stuff back off, I just had it all apart. Thanks guys...I'll post when I get around to it. $705...I mean it doesn't look like a very complicated part, that is crazy. What is that other pic, Real OEM? They have '68-'73 for $588 and NLA. I guess that is why but still seems way over the top ridiculously priced.

those are pieces for 1969-1973, and yes that was a drawing from realoem .... so none of these are for your car. according to realoem, all are NLA for the late 73 to 75 cars. same is true for the early cars - NLA. YIKES, now i understand the 700 bucks

Yeah YIKES is right...

I might have proper one in used but working confdition. I would need the part number located on the stalk wiring as other numbers from the catalogs are really misleading. Of course the type of the plug would be good as well for double check.

Well, now we come to the point where the threat should had started: verify if your switch really is faulty. You may do this with the switch installed, by testing each single function at the connector side.
If you see it being faulty, you need to dismount it.

These switches are fixed by two screws only, accessible once you removed the lower cover and the steering wheel (ouch!).
Take pics showing the part numberand the connector, measure the length of the cable.20251028_112015.jpg20251028_111937.jpg
Now your search may start.
