I've just acquired a 72 CSL that's been standing since the '80s. During that decade against taste, someone replaced the standard hood retaining mechanism with cheap & nasty split pins. I'm looking to revert to stock hence after the "male" catches that fit to the underside of the hood (or bonnet if you're in the UK like me). The "female" mechanism mounted to the bulkhead is in place but I'm also missing the cables and interior lever. Any help or contatcs apprecietaed ! Rich

Hey Richard,

There was a lever on ebay for ages - not sure if it still is and for the wire you can get it from a bike shop i would imagine but it needs to be very strong. The original has a bit on the end to go into the lever.

Where abouts are you based? Which number csl have you got?

Hi Rohan, thanks for the heads-up, I'd just assumed it would be too specialised for ebay !

I'm across in Bristol, just bought #034 Verona Red as a largely complete but non-running project. Plan is to get on road this summer (all structural rust been taken care of as part of the sale) then get the cosmetic stuff (rusty rear arches, saaggy seats) next winter.

Do you know - does the bonnet release activate from interior and front grille or just interior ?

Cheers, Rich

The bonnet release activates from the inside...

The cable (Bowden) goes through a throw lever located left-side inside the underdash access door. It then passes through the bulkhead out to the firewall and through the two female mechanism's. The cable is held in the lever by a lug (part of the bowden cable) then by the securing/retaining bolts on the female parts only.

Not sure of the parts on your side of the pond...
Jon
