Probably true! I have not had any bad experiences, though this coming summer the car will see way way more road . I am just being preventative.

Not for sale, but if you are looking for an original, mine might be a good model. I believe it may be the one the dealers carried when our cars were new.

It is very similar to the one CS-Werke carried. You might message @Christoph. Bonn or email him and ask when he will be back in stock.

Note that the cap is marked Luftdicht (air tight) since our cars vent the fuel tank to the air cleaner.

Just saw the locking gas cap as an accesory in a '74 brochure, note it has the logo on it:
