I was visiting Bianka Black at the shop and many mysteries were afoot. The front and rear windshield are out and, no rust holes! Very happy there.
However I noticed that the cheese grater looking strips that are riveted to the car are not all present. I believe the window gaskets grab onto them. What's the deal with these?
The one on the left is broken and is there supposed to be one on top?
I will work on better pictures

Bossrobot: indeed there are three at the front windshield - 2x for the A-pillars, and 1x across the top.

They capture the black vinyl as it wraps up and around the A-pillars, and the headliner at the top leading edge of the roof.
I believe that modern versions of this are also available, any competent upholsterer would know. One can also just glue the material fold over and let it set with binder clips - sans the metal clasp, but the continuous clasps are good as they really hold the material in tension as overtime the glue alone may release with heat bit by bit and = dissatisfaction.

My windshield installer said to remove it, that the replacement seal wouldn't fit over it.

I did all my pillar vinyl and headliner and windshield myself and I never saw these and I believe my stuff was all original when I started.
