WTB: Original Pebra Key Blanks

used to be some on ebay, but i haven't seen any in a while. now just the non-rubber blanks. so you have a couple of options. buy a key to key everything to match ... or you can buy a lock set from w+n for 447 euro. 3 keys and 4 locks. all new.

try BMW - the part number above is still available from BMW - getbmwparts.com has them for $677.41

there is a BMW part number in realoem - can't guarantee its the pebra key ... but i looked this up on a 2800cs. and it looks like you can get the key cut or get the blank

03General key (code)132321102267$55.56
03General key (blank)132321104229$13.46

All my locks and ignition arrive at Santa Monica tomorrow! All getting serviced and rekeyed to work off a single key but I don't believe they have those original key blanks hence the question. I'll call BMW tomorrow. Worth a try at least.

Tyson, do you have a key for one of the locks - like the ignition? if so, ask Santa Monica to send you the code ... then you can have BMW send you a new key that will work with all of the locks.

The issue is the car has 4 different codes throughout hence the rekeying (technically re-indexing each lock to match each other). Are you saying they can make a "master" key that will work in every iteration of lock no matter what code it has?

Tyson, did you check the locks against they key(s) you have? Just because there is a different code on each lock does not mean they have a different key. Why? P.O could have bought a replacement lock with a different code and re-keyed to fit current locks. I had that situation so 3 codes but only one lock needed to be re-keyed. They still have some blanks too. This was as of Feb when I had mine done.

I would sort it all out and then ask Mike or Blane the cost to get em all on the same key and also get a second key. Then weigh the cost against buying all new from W&N.

nope ... what i am saying is that Santa Monica can rekey each lock to fit to one key. my point was that if you use the ignition key, and key all the locks to that - you could have BMW send you a key to the ignition lock (by giving them the code.

@bavbov, Santa Monica's cost should be less than buying all new. 447 euro + 49 euro shipping isn't hard to beat.

The W-N set is what we did when my ignition switch failed. Ignition & door locks are the same, trunk is a separate key.

@rsporsche -That's what I'm doing, but you reindex everything to the trunk lock. The trunk locks don't take to being rekeyed and the ignition is the easiest of all of them to rekey. All of that is less than half the cost of a new lock set.

I just wanted to get an original style key(s), hence the request for pebra key blanks...

@bavbob - yes, none worked with the ignition key which kicked off this exercise...

Maybe a little tangential but I found Schwenk Lock & Safe Co in Santa Clara CA. There was an old guy there (the owner I think) that had the machine to cut these keys and had blanks. Don't know if they were Pebra. I think for about $100.00 he made me two keys from my original - maybe expensive. He also trained one of the younger guys how to do it too.

Thanks for the info. Making the keys is not a problem.

It's getting the blanks that are the original Pebra rubber headed style to make the keys from. It's not THAT big of a deal, I just like my original pebra ignition keys style.

My Dealer has blanks with the black plastic cover (w BMW logo) for just under $20, but can’t get me pre-cut keys. You can ‘cut’ them yourself on a drill press if you take your time. I would not free-hand it, but I’ll bet a younger guy could get that to work.

Just had a look, my copies don't have the rubber tops, they are all silver and "ilco" brand

Does anyone have or know where to get rubber covered Pebra key blanks?

Dealers still can get these for you from the national key repository. Last time I checked, Santa Monica was supplying the generic metal Ilco keys.

Order the blanks via a dealer.

Well I called three local dealerships and they told me to call the National Key center for BMW. Was on hold for 45 mins then disconnected. Callback connected me to someone that didn't even know BMW built cars in the 70s and said "they don't sell key blanks" and I need a 17 digit VIN. What a waste. I couldn't help but think that BMW's hiring practices need a complete overall.

Finally spoke with someone in parts at Peter Pan BMW and they ordered two key blanks based on the numbers Scott (@rsporsche) provided above but he couldn't say what brand they were or what they looked like. We'll see. Thanks for everyone's input.

FYI, the keys from Keys4classics in Australia have the black plastic blanks.

My original keys for comparison say Pebra & have the BMW logo.

The Walloth-Nesch complete lockset comes with keys that match the originals.
