WTB: Pedal to carburator linkage

..... that funny cylinder on the vertical rod, mine never moved but it might have served as a damper of some sort.....
Just taking apart my car, an automatic, and i have it disassembled. Enclosed a picture. It has a fixed length in compression , but when pulled, it can elongate.
I guess it serves as a delay for closing the throttles.

It has a pin that can be driven out. Once the pin is out, the spring with long pin will jump out; no high force, but it will fly 2-3 meters (10 feet). Jack-in-the-box style.

Eric - I tend to agree with Chris. I think of the spring in that part as a damper for situations when we are already pushing the accelerator to the floor, seek more power, and attempt to press even harder.

Hi Guys - was talking to an old school mechanic about this. That sprind/damper thing is specific to the automatic cars, and is part of the design of the kick down mechanism that downshifts when the acclerator pedal is abruptly pushed to the floor.
