Along the front piece on the dash there is a long thin ally piece which then has a rubber strip prised into it. It runs the length of the dashboard front piece.

A long shot I know but if anyone has a spare, then please let me know. My was chromed whilst bent and I cannot bend it back. The chromers are trying to resolve it but it is likely not to work

If you can source a LHD piece you may be able to join the unbent section of yours with the other at a discreet point.

Hmm, strange that BMW would make this a difference between lefties and righties. Same with the wooden grab rail. You would think that cabin fitments would just be mirrored.

I would love to know what was in their heads when they made that decision. I’m guessing the extra wood was to compete with UK domestics. Not sure why they didn’t offer it in the US. Perhaps to modernize the 2000CS which overlapped for a bit AFAIK.

The first RHD coupes in the UK were modified by London Consessionaires from LHD coupes. Perhaps the wood was used as it was easier to make this mod?

Having just re-veneered and finished my wooden cross piece, I would doubt that it was because it was easier. It was a Royal PITA.

I would go with the comparison with other luxury cars in the UK then. Most of them looked like an old Private London Club lounge.

The UK cars came with more wood, I suspect to go a small way to attracting the Jaguar XJS set, as it was the top selling English GT car in the seventies.
