i need a new slave cylinder... after driving the car for one of the first couple times after it had sat for 20 years the slave cylinder went out. Do i need to replace the clutch master as well? when the master went out on my RX-7 it was suggested that i replace both. I found one on BMA parts for 230, if anyone has a good used one that they would sell for cheaper that would be IDEAL!
cheers

Hey, that sounds familiar... My car had sat for a long time, and I was able to just rebuild the clutch master cylinder. The clutch master is NLA, but it can be easily and cheaply rebuilt w/a kit. Of course (and on the downside), you'll have to first remove it and make sure that the bore is not terribly scarred up/rusted, but once it's out, it's easy to do. It comes out easily, but is a bit of a PITA to get it back in yourself.

If this isn't for you, there are suppliers in the "Links" area that can also help you with either a good used, or maybe a rebuilt one.

Lastly, there was a Q&A sent in to the Roundel some issues back regarding cross-referencing part numbers for NLA parts that could possibly be substituted; the clutch master and slave for E3/E9 was the topic of the cross-reference question. Maybe someone knows if an E12/E24 master may work...

Either way you go, good luck.

Regarding the slave cylinder, it can be purchased new.

I got a master & slave from Maximillian Imports last year. The original slave is no longer available but they had a replacement that required a short hose extension they also sold. I think the cutoff was 1973- later years original parts still available.

A master from a 2002 will work if you use the old rod that attaches to the pedal.Part #21-52-1-104-510.Slave's are available but are close to $300!one is on E-bay right now.

Clutch master. . use one from an E21 320i

Whitepost Restorations does a good job of rebuilding, takes time and is expensive.
