Am in desperate need for a stock set of trim rings and hub caps for my ‘72 Bavaria nee”Avocado”. Previous owner used a flathead screwdriver removing them from the stock 14” steel rims. Could possibly salvage the hub caps but the trim rings are severely dented. Would entertain a refinisher though Aluminum is exceedingly brittle.

Hugh, unless you are building a super original e3 or a concours car ... what about putting a set of coupe alloy wheels on it (from '70 to '73)? they look great on the e3 and are period correct and were an option on the e3. somebody was selling a set recently for not a lot of money. the pic below is from realoem for e3 wheels. (i am talking about the wheel on the left). i like the steel wheels + trim rings, but by the time you are able to find a set of them ... and fix them (straighten) and refinish, you are likely going to spend more than you would to buy a set of the alloys, strip and repaint.

Scott, thanks for chiming in. Not pursuing an absolute original though you can see from the older picture that the trim rings and hub caps really set off the car. Ancient Kodachrome. Car has the honeycomb alloys presently from a E28(?). Hugh

E3 in storage so best I can do . These wheels are BMW turbines and according to RealOem, they were also available for the E3. Fairly easy to find.

believe me i know what you mean, i used to have a '73 bavaria. i replaced the trim rings and caps ... it looks good. remember, the '70 - '73 coupe alloys have a slightly smaller chrome cap ... which helps. the fps alpina style and turbines have zero bling except for the lug nuts (if you use the alpina style).

Have the Alpina Wheels on my E9. See pic. They look great and IMHO look better than the Factory Alloys(Cromodora?). My 2002tii does have the Cromodoras. They look well and from my memory were OEM to the model. My original ‘74 3.0S had an “Alpina” type when which came from the factory. It looked “turbo-esque” and had good curb appeal. The “honeycomb” wheels presently on the Bavaria look fine but don’t have the impact I’m looking for. Am going to continue looking for those rings and caps. Somebody has to have a set out there.

@Whipcity - remember i don't know your budget and was recommending a budget approach ... because i know the factory alloys are very affordable. yes, the 13" were an option on the 2002 ... but i don't think they had the chrome hub covers, which makes a difference. no question that alpinas on the e9 are great. the only other wheel i like as much is the bbs rs. if you want more 'bling' then i recommend the bbs rs ... a lot more expensive. one other option you may want to consider, you can buy a set of coupeking alpinas and have the lip polished.

if you can find the original trim rings and caps in great condition, that would be great. if you were reconditioning an old set, my condition is that you will spend between 500 and bucks +/- 250. i remember when i bought my new set for the bavaria - i spent 160 bucks for everything. i hope you can find a nice set.

I put the slotted alloys on my '69 while I was working on it and didn't like the look, although they didn't have the center caps on them. I used the stock rings and hub caps.

let me know if anyone finds a source - I looked a while back (including at W&N) and nobody had them - I was able to find a couple that were less beat up than mine from double02salvage but they will need work to be presentable so for now I just run with center caps.

I’ve got a set of trim rings and hub caps. I also have a set of those turbine wheels, which I think look awesome on the Bavaria. Both are for sale.
