WTB: under dash panel button for hood release lever

Terrific! Also need to know that pushing the button actually results in the catch mechanism moving smoothly.

Looks like your car was built about 220 ahead of mine (2270263).

Curious to know what the repair was. These buttons are simple enough, but the latch piece can wear and fail to hold. I find that if I pull down on the dash part that the lock is supposed to engage with, just before I shut that door. It holds, every time. If I don't do that it takes some repetition until it stays in position.
 
I also had the problem that the lock did not hold well ; the fuse box door opened itself with every speed bump.
I solved it by bending the bracket that is mounted under the dash. The business end of the bracket now sits a bit lower, allowing the hook of the door to catch with more overlap.

Now, thinking about it, probably a few washers between the bracket and the dash would have done the same, without me needing to bend stuff. (I never like irreversible solutions)...

The trouble with mine was when the button was pressed the latch would let go but not spring back into place. I fiddled with a bit, finally put it in a vice and slowly twisted the latch until it would spring back. We will see how long it lasts. The whole latch assembly is kinda kludgey.

Yes, same here. That is why I just pull down on that bracket before I close the door. just one more little thing to remind me this is a 50 year old car ;)
