Here's a working replacement solution - for the next guy, - or in case I lose my mind on this job before I get to the passenger seat.
>> buy metal door panel clips for GM cars mid 60s-70s, on Amazon or anywhere
>> snip the top latching wings off
>> bend to 1/2" with vice, heat gun
>> compare to old clip angle
These clips affix to the soft-back front seat covers of early front seat. BMW went to fiberglass back covers afterward.
