I know this is a long shot and unusual request, but I am missing one of the honeycomb, body color painted tar sound pieces that fits on the firewall and was hoping that someone has a Polaris parts car that they can remove it from - even in a couple pieces - my others aren't in good shape but I want to put a like-piece in its place becasue I hate the dynamat there now. Thanks.

Dynomat

I dunno....I used Dynomat for the bonnet insulation as well as the firewall. Someone here on the forum recommended bumper paint to knock out the offensive "Dynomat" logo. I used Honda black. Quite satisfied with the result and it has held up to under hood temps.

Yea I painted my dynamat silver but it looks crappy with the wrinkles and shiney paint - was hoping for an old piece that has bronzed and cracked like the rest of my insulation.

Try again

This time use the aforementioned bumper paint. The lower pieces cannot be well seen anyway. In my case the lower bits were serviceable.
Hard to do correct without an engine pull. My mission was to do a engine bay detail with the engine in place. Is the insulation kit NLA?

Speaking of tar, what is used to replace the tar-like stuff a top the struts / inner fenders?

I think we are talking about 2 different parts - I am referring to the tar piece similar to the ones on top of the fenders that is behind the passenger side hood latch clamp next to the painted black air/fan intake in your 2nd pic - yours has a horizontal crack and a small round hole in the middle. Your engine compartment looks nice - and you are well-stocked with Labbat's! I am looking for the piece to the right to hopefully match the faded one under the VIN plate:

You might try checking out Evercoat Q-Pads, they are auto body replacement sound deadening panels without the metal surface skin like Dynamat. I know 3M make a similar product (#8840), and I believe both products are easy to trim, heatable to shape and paintable. Wurth used to make a similar product, but I have not seen it for quite some time, hopes this helps you out.
Tschuss, krauser

Aha!

You know, the only time I have seen that stuff or the equivelant of, was on a resto project at Korman BMW. Fresh and not yet color matched. Give Carl Bennett a jingle and see what he says. He is on the Linkedin. I am interested as well. As you pointed out, my stuff looks a tad rough. Let me know what you find out. I will inquire as well.

From the First Fives board (thanks Blaise), you can see the Q-pads mentioned above here. To me eye, the closest match to the original 'tar board' look.
