ZF S5/18-3 rare 5-speed gearbox on Ebay

It is the correct one for BMW with M10 or M30 engines, location is Vienna, I know the guy who sells it, he´s trustworthy, a member of our Club:

Gears : 1 = 2,3 / 2 = 1,8 / 3 = 1,36 / 4 = 1,14 / 5 = 1,0 / R = 2,82

Like the one I found years ago :

But mine had gears : 1 = 2,85 / 2 = 1,8 / 3 = 1,36 / 4 = 1,14 / 5 = 1,0 / R = 2,82

Thats for sure ! When I bought my Orange, she costs less than the buy-it-now-price of this gearbox......

But : If you want to have a E9 race car, thats the perfect gearbox for it. 1st gear = 2,3 !

And all tuning E9 had the 5-speed ZF, Alpina, GS, Koepchen and Schnitzer :

This gearbox is good enough for 300hp and more............

TheZF is only OK for race engines up to 3 liters.
Larger engines have too much torque for the ZF and they require the Getrag 265.
During 1973 all the race teams switched to Getrag as they started racing 3.3 and 3.5 liters.

In the other hand the ZF is the only 5 speed gearbox homologated for the 2800cs Gr2 (1970-72).

I do not know which car this one comes from but 1st gear ratio = 2,3 is not usual.

In the description Günter wrote "...war in einem BMW 02er Schnitzer eingebaut..." , this means, translated, was mounted in an 02.....

Wegen meines Getriebes, jaja, streu du nur Salz in meine Wunden....

Not that it makes all that much of a difference but the "road Alpina" gearbox refered to here had 3,87 in first (according to my ZF papers). The one from e-bay is the BMW version homologation track box as used by most competitors through 1972, before going to Getrag for the reasons mentionned by 2275XXX. Most ZF ratio combinations were available for various makes: for example, the 2,85-1,00 box refered here as Alpina race box was also mounted in the Opel Kadett GT/E, the european equivalent of the Chevrolet Chevette.

Looking for a second one

I have the 2.99-0.87 in one car with well over 300 HP. Works fine with its 3.91 LSD. Might change to 3.64 to calm it down on the motorway.
I find the one in Vienna too CR for my liking.
Would like to find a second 5-speed ZF if anyone can find me one...

The ZF has a plate as seen above. The ratios for the G265/5 are: 3.72, 2.40, 1.77, 1.26, 1.00.

As you can see, the box ratios as a whole are very close to the GS/Koepchen/Schnitzer ZF boxes, save for first gear.
