Looks like a nice one - anyone know what make/who makes the strut brace shown?

Can add that another CSL 1972 was sold at H&H auctions 11 March 2009 for £ 71 500. I think this one was a CS/CSL Group 2 race car (converted?).

Cheers

The high sales values posted in this topic were very interesting and a little puzzling to me - I was told recently by a company in UK who specialise in CSL and M-series cars that a good restored CSL with everything done, can be bought in the UK for around £25-30K GB Pounds, which nowadays is about EUR27,000-32,5600. You might reasonably expect that as our cars get rarer through attrition, the price would go up (barring major economic downturns etc) but I was further advised that in the UK the cost of restoration for CSLs coupled with the sheer quantity of restored CSLs available is driving down the price of unrestored CSLs like mine (see pictures here http://s733.photobucket.com/albums/ww336/weebachle/ and my recent post on "Rocker Arms" for some background). I am told, that to a dealer, my car in its current condition is worth between £1,000 and £2,000 and that a dealer would expect to sell it at maybe £3,000 - £4,000. Needless to say I am not selling.
So what do you guys think, is this just a UK phenomenon, are the high figures of EUR 65K and £71.5K just aberrations and the true figures more like the ones I was quoted? Any comments?
Cheers

Seems like we should be keeping track of this type of info somewhere on this site. The bi-monthly Coupe Value flame-wars are really unnecessary.

Although this thread hasn't had time to descend there yet, I would have to agree with David regarding some sort of tracking of actual sales on the site somewhere to mitigate the downward spiral of the quality of some of the content here addressing relative value of these cars.

Value is always what a buyer is willing and able to pay at any particular time and in a particular setting and then tracked for historical relevance.

There is no reason to let the tone of this forum degrade just because some experts can't figure out what that car they're never going to buy is not worth...

CSL Prices in the UK are generally as you have stated, with CSi and Cs prices around 7 - 8K.
One of the problems with them is the high cost of restoration, as I am finding out.
The German market is very different to the UK one and the CSL has reached almost mythical status because there are so few left. Those that can get through the TUV test are always going to be worth a lot of money.
I think the prices are aberrations, unless there was some particular history with the cars sold.
However at the end of the day you will only get what somebody is willing to spend

Here it is:

http://www.classic-auctions.com/lotdetail.php?lotid=26648&aucid=27190

According to the chassis number it was a US 3.0cs before being converted to Gr.2

I saw that car close up in the paddock at Donnington race course late last year and I have to say that the build quality and overall finish of the car was nothing short of sensational and I say that as someone who is somestimes a little over critical.

Currently classic car values are on the increase due to "the money" looking for alternative sources of investment in light of the poor savings intrest rate. This is also affecting values at the lower end of the scale also. I've been looking on Ebay for an 02 to restore for a while now but Ive noticed that what could be bought for less than £500 a year ago is now fetching over £1000. As a point of intrest a mint CSL "Bat" made over £80K in a London auction house over a year ago. Which just goes to show that something is worth what someone is prepared to pay but it helps if two people want it badly.

Not to question the build quality and overall finish of the car, but one wonders what the car would have brought (more or less?) if it had been correctly restored.
