Thought I would start a new thread about my b35 build. The head got two new valves, all new guides and seals, slightly decked. I had the intake side clear ceramic coated to match the induction plumbing along with timing cover. Oh yes, the timing cover. I want to use the original distributor and stake it instead of using Motronic dizzy but stud hole in cover doesn't match the valve cover. I guess I knew this could be an issue. I also ceramic coated the oil pan, it looks beautiful, also did this to intake manifolds, runners, plenum, L-jet throttle body.

Still waiting for block to be finished. I bought all new gears, chains, tensioners, lightened flywheel, pressure plate (so it can be balanced with the crank), pilot bearing, etc. Using early e24 oil pan with large baffle and early oil pump so no modification is needed. The cost is climbing, this isn't going to be the slight refresh and drop it in like I though but the results will be outstanding. I am taking my time and don't want to impact some driving events so this will take longer than planned.

Chris,

you only need the early valve cover that was originally fitted to all E9 (with the oil cap located over the 2nd cylinder) That one line up with the front cover you have.

Cheers

NICE!

I'm a ways behind you Chris. Did get my cam from Paul B and have most of the parts for my head but had to order rocker arm shafts from Germany.
If you want to spend some more look at this 123ignitionusa.com.
One model of this distributor is tunable on a PC. Make your curves to suit your engine.
Keep it going and more pics.

I know, I thought the injected air cleaner might interfere with the cap. Is it that simple?

Chris,

The CSi air cleaner does not interfere with the cap in the forward position.

Clear ceramic coating, so sand/glass blast and then ceramic coat?

Is that expensive?

It doesn't get too shiny? Could you maybe post some close-up pic or pics at an angle to give an idea of the surface?

They are media blasted if necessary and then tumbled in media, then a clear ceramic is sprayed and air dries, I think it can only be removed with Acetone, good for 800 degrees, low gloss although a gloss is also available.

I did it to valve cover, timing cover, intake side of head, water divider and T-stat housing, intake manifolds, C runners, log plenum and oil pan. It came to $550 but well worth it.

Here is a pic of the tanked only Motronic cover next to the ceramic coated cover. Finish is very close to OEM but no longer porous. The tanked only cover shows finger prints and dirt right away. I can wipe my coated parts with a Kleenex it's that's smooth.

Thanks, does look very nice indeed.

So it is only soluble with acetone, safe with all liquids you find around an engine?

Seems well worth the money then, and my consideration for when I clean up my engine.

Yes, The original csi air box does not allow for the AFM. You need to use the next generation of EFI air boxes (e24, etc.) that leave room for the AFM. In the latter, I am not sure about the interference with the oil filler at the front of the valve cover.

Yes, MS does not need an AFM, just a vacuum hose attached to the intake log.

That is why BMW switched the location of the oil filler cap to the back... It sounded like you were telling Chris that he could easily use the old CS valve cover with the Motronic air cleaner... The valve cover of my m30b34 fits on the CS timing cover and a b35 head and it has the oil filler cap close to the firewall.
