Looking a low mile 2102 VW GTI automatic for the wife.

Any collective wisdom on that car?

Thanks!

My Brother has that car, but it is in Montreal. His is low mile, gently driven (he has many cars) White, 4 door , automatic with cloth seats and navi. It has been an excellent car. I'd want a manual probably if I owned one. It has torque steer when you floor it, but certainly not an excessive amount. The cabins are well laid out and I really enjoy driving a car this size. The VW/Audi turbo is a hot rodders dream. You just turn a screw to get more power. Very nice torque at low RPM.

I drove a brand new one earlier this week. It was also an automatic. The cabin is even more refined. Incredibly solid door panels. Nothing moves when you give it a whack. Passing power is very impressive when you stomp on it and the gearbox double downshifts. I did find that when driven in economy mode it was a too conservative in gear selection. Felt like the engine was almost lugging. If I was buying a new car it would most likely be a stripped R type 6 speed which is coming out this summer. Originally it was rumoured that it would cost $50K in Canada but the salesman told me that it would be priced at $39 Cdn which is about 6 or 7 more than the FWD GTI. It will also be a regular production model, rather than the limited runs they did with previous R models.

If you come up for the yearly Pot Hole festival and have Green money that currently (but maybe temporarily) has value I can slip my Brother some Caribou, sign the paperwork and send you across the border. Will strap the summer tires on the roof.

We have a manual 2010 with 25K miles; love it, especially my wife (its her car). Very lively, taut suspension, crisp steering, and a great exhaust note when you punch the turbo. Had a few warranty issues—one of the plastic pins that are used to hold up the rear parcel shelf just sheared off one day from regular use. The pin is part of the rear hatch panel, so the entire panel had to be replaced. And we recently had a door crash sensor replaced under warranty because it kept triggering the airbag warning light. I suggest getting a pair of seat covers for the fronts, the red/white/black pattern is pretty to look at but expensive (I imagine) to replace.

if you are going to get an automatic, and it is a DSG automatic, make sure to change the fluid and filter for the transmission every 30-40k no exceptions.

Money here is green on one side only...Does that work? That car combo works except a metallic color would be better. Been to Montreal for the Jazz festival, looks like you guys live from festival to festival.

The specimen I am looking at is really low miles, the only surprising thing is black carbon deposits on the exhaust tip. What does it mean? It used to mean that the mixture is rich but on modern low miles car? My M5 gets some of that also. Carfax confirms the low miles.

Green on one side sounds better than our weakened Loonie coin. No more buying our stuff in the South now that our Petro dollar is on the downslide.

Please build Keystone XL!! Keep Venezuelans recycling condoms and toilet paper.

Not sure what the carbon on the tailpipe means. Is it still under warranty?

2.0T's have sooty tips. No idea why, but all of the MkV, MkVI's that I've been around have it (and I work at a Dealer Group that has a VW franchise, and I sold VW's from 2006-09), and my 550 mile brand new MkVII GTI has spot on the exhaust. That is no cause for concern.

Flush the DSG as mentioned, watch it for water pump failures, replace the cam follower at 60k miles, and you'll be good to go. Great cars.

I am reading that the transition from port injection to direct injection caused sooty tips and also carbon deposit concerns... So far looks like a good plan, only concern is that oil consumption angle.

Thankfully the carbon build up doesn't really come into play till 100k miles. Same issue a ton of OEM's have been having, unless you run direct and port like Lexus has been doing on some engines.

We have a couple in stock at my VW franchise.

Also, if you see one you like anywhere in the market, PM me the VIN and the price, and I can let you know all sorts of information on it.
