Very nice wheel Simon. Is the leather wrap original to the wheel? Looks like the Momo stitch. Either way, great looking wheel with the leather wrap.

Agreed! I like the leather Nardi and the button looks great. I’ve been looking for that button for over a year. Other than the one on Ebay for $150 they are never available. :(

That looks like original Nardi stitching to me. Nardi also used a parallel stitch.

Yes it is an original Nardi, purchased new several years ago. I alternate between the Nardi and 380 petri that has been recovered.

I agree that it looks cheap but sadly that is the button that Nardi has most readily available. There is another version with a larger roundel that looks much much better. I'm not sure if it is NLA or what, but I almost never see them for sale. There has been a used one on Ebay for a year or so for $150. I'm holding out for a used one that costs less.

Can you send me the link to the eBay auction?

Do you know if they are hard to install or is it pretty easy?

Yeah it’s easy. Pull the trim ring off with your hand or a small screwdriver. It is held to the steering wheel bolts with rubber grommets. The pull up on the edge of the horn button. It is held in place
with a spring clip that is integrated into the button body. Once free unplug the single lead going to the back of the horn button.

What about a show us your knob thread, or are they all just the same old wood? I have quite a few wood knobs, some with a BMW badge some without, Pat

I’m glad you kept this wheel. I hope to have updates on my 350mm prototipo soon. It is the exact stitching and leather work that you would need should you decide to recover yours.

Great job! New leather? I like that horn button!
On main steering part leather is still original from 70's - it was in pretty good condition (no cracks, no cuts etc.), so was no need to change it, before i started restoration leather was just soften for couple days with leather cream, and then leather paint was applied, the thread was replaced with new one. New leather is only on crossbars.
Yeah that early type horn is cool, also like it much. With later style black plastic ring is not the same, as with silver metal one.

I’m selling my restored Protoipo on another forum to find my Alpina restoration. I figured I could memorialize it here. Is it sad that I’m going to miss a horn button.? :D

In the spirit of the prototipo, I thought I'd share my "unrestored" (as if I needed to clarify that - ha ha) Momo Prototipo. I also have a Nardi wheel, but may end up restoring and running this one. I grow more fondly of it every day.
