In the final stages of pulling all the bits of the CSL project together from the multiple locations it has been stored at over the years!
Got the motor - correct number to match the shell 2285467 - great! MAP sensor and computer all present.
Cant find the front struts - not so great as the ones on the donor car are pretty rotten as shown - will likely have to source some replacements. Also seem to be missing most of what would constitute rear hubs (inner and outer drive flanges)
Found the diff and it looks to be the correct 12/39 's' LSD. Which is nice
Found what we believe to be the correct gearbox - has cast part number 262.0.200.00R 225, stamped number 048043/8 - question - is this likely to be correct? The vendor has a shipping container full of random BMW engines and gearboxes - this looked the most likely and was the one from the CSL as far as he could remember... photos
Overall I get the feeling there is at least one more (probably heavy) fish bin or parts to find somewhere (or not...) either way it is not the end of the world - most parts should be salvageable from the CSA hopefully. Oh, and the vendor broke the back window moving crap about in his garage and we cant find the front window so that makes taking care of the CSA glass a bit more important.
I am not having one of my giddy with excitement that I managed to buy a CSL days, nor am I having one of my wracked with terror 'why the hell did I think this was a good idea days' - I am somewhere in the middle and I think that is ok!
