Do you all feel a heat insulator between the carburetor and intake is a requirement, particularly in NC, gets kinda hot?

It serves a purpose to me. One is that if removed the throttle linkage depending on set up is too close to the manifold to operate.

I don't have any type of insulator between my carbs and the head, and I had thought the primary purpose of an "insulator" would be to isolate the carbs fron engine vibration, which is not much of a problem with our engines.

As to heat insulation, I would think the only place where that might help is when restarting a car that has been running on a hot day. There, the heat from the engine may heat up the gasoline in the bowls. Otherwise, the carbs flow so much ambient air through them that the heat from the engine has little opportunity to influence air/fuel mixtures within the carburetor. Fuel line routing is important, but once the engine is running I would think the impact of the carb body on air/fuel temps is minimal because the ambient air temperature would overwhelm any heat transfer from the carb body.

On my second set and also noticed the linkage is close to the manifold as with all E9 things a bit of tweaking is required. Removing the idle linkage making some mods assured the distance between them and manifold is adequate. Never had any hot start issues as agree there is a lot of air flow. Spend quality time syncing the carbs.

I also think it is a hot start issue as Weber carb fuel bowls seem to lose gas at an astonishingly high rate just from sitting.

Yes - two comments here.

First, the 3 second priming feature of the Revolution Electronics fuel pump relay helps with this. Stevehose recommended this to me, and it works well.

Second, I think some of that loss is to flow into the cylinders as a result of the mounting angle of the carbs to the head. This places a premium on regular oil changes.

I don't use them as per Steve's recommendation. Just another source of possible leaks.
I have the same timed circuit that Chris has for fuel pump.
No problems.
