Ceylon on Bat

The original ‘chrome’ nozzles are made of solid Alu and not plastic ones with chrome ‘paint’….just saying!

That seems odd to me. BMW already had black plastic nozzles. They also had “chromed plastic” grilles. I don’t see how cast aluminum would be selected from a cost perspective. Also the nozzle posted by @Jon B is not aluminum.

Not mine and not for sale, nor the Alu head light covers…..

Solid aluminum or not, those are plated, and said plating is failing. It would also be the only chrome plated aluminum part on an e9. Lot’s of chrome plated white metal, chrome plated brass, chrome look plastic, and polished / anodized aluminum.

Don't know much about 3d printing but is this a candidate? Print them and then put the "stretch on with a heat gun" chrome? So small it won't take much material - maybe profitable?

They might be "profitable", but after I spend $1000 for a 2800CS owner manual, like The Big Bopper said, "I ain't got no money, Honey!!"

This is clear proof that the spray nozzles were not made of aluminum ;-)

Not sure if the question of this thread is to determine the colour of the jets, but mine are chromed plastic on a black (plastic or rubber, not sure) base.
My Vin is 2253something i think. May 1973 build date. Has been restored before, so they may not be original.

The parts are now in a box somewhere I think.

Thanks for sharing this brochure pic! I also don’t believe that they were aluminum, but I’m not sure what this factory photo proves.

Hi I am a newbie to the site. I saw the thread on the BAT ceylon coupe. I have a ceylon coupe vin 2240347, two cars off from the one on BAT. My nozzle and grills are black but I am not sure if they have been repainted. Also, looking for a paint company that makes the correct color. I have had paint chips made up from their listings but they are all different colors. Thanks for any info you can provide

are you talking about the best ceylon paint color? i did this research with my painter and the glasurit was way off ... even they say not for touch-up of the original paint. the best that we found was a PPG water-based paint that matches very closely. the engine compartment pic is inside, the trunk of @ccr2002's original ceylon coupe is outside.

Thanks RSPorshe for your reply. As mentioned before I had tried 4 different paint companies with the formulas for that color and they were all different. Then tried to match to underside of trunk lid with original paint but I thought that may not be correct because of age and different paint type. This color looks good from what I see. I am in Grass Valley, California....thanks again for your response.

gorgeous car.

Probably only thing holding it back is probably the older paint in the engine compartment, obvious from the insulation pads.

Just as I am standing next to them; my car has rubber feet under chromed pot metal washer jets. I am sure they are metal as they are bloody cold to the touch.

Ok, I just spent 1 hour to get them out. What a fight!

The main part is a rubber tube that inserts from the top of the hood. It snaps in place with a recess in the rubber that grips the round metal hole.
Below the hood is a plastic connector that fits in the underside of the rubber part.
At the top is a metal cap that can be pried off; it retains a small metal ball that is the actual jet opening. It's ball shape allows it to rotate inside the rubber part that fits snugly around it.

I am not sure if my rubber part is still water tight, as I gently tried to pry it out with 1 blunt screwdrivers, it has some nicks in the rubber which also acts as a conduit, so I hope I didn't poke through it.

The plastic part actually has a logo on it: SWF.

Anyone knows if this is original?
