Hello Coupe Owners,

I am looking to buy a VGS-brand intake manifold for installing Weber DCOE carbs on an M30. I understand these manifolds are not easy to come by, but try not to leave any stone unturned when searching for period-correct tuner parts. This specific design raises the carbs above the brake booster versus more standard designs.

Thank you,

These are very rare, I got mine by accident when 14 years ago I bought a set of DCOE's that were attached to it. I think another member here got one off Kleininezeigen. I've had an eBay search for this part for over a decade with no hits. Maybe a member here has one on the shelf or that other member isn't using it (sorry I forgot who it was). Here's a pic of the manifold showing the angle up over the booster:

Even more difficult to find is the cold air intake box that goes with it:

Several years ago during my search I reached out to VGS Motorsports and they indicated that the mold was lost and they recommended reaching out to DBiLAS.

I found one on Kleinanziegan (in fact there is one there now), and the one I found included some of the air filter cover, but the cost was substantial and some of the parts appeared to be damaged.

Given the rarity of the parts I wonder if this would be the kind of part to scan and make 3D models of for possible small batch manufacturing.

There are a few of us that are searching along with you. Good luck.

Thank you all for the replies so far. We have a few M30 sidedraft projects in the shop with one of these manifolds present. The "riser" design is great for fitting in engine bay. We plan to fabricate custom air filter housings for each car (E9 and Bavaria).

Nate

Gruppe,

Curious if these DCOE manifolds on this E9 for currently sale on BAT are the same VSG discussed in this thread? Number 1 manifold appears to jog around the T-stat as discussed.

I make the manifolds for the m30 head, 3 identical manifolds fit just fine, put a spacer under the thermostat housing, mark

put a spacer under the thermostat housing
We make the spacer to offset the thermostat housing. It retains the OEM look of the housing as it is not modified and it allows the use of even the later Weber Spanish DCOEs.

The issue is the brake booster clearance, the 90 degree elbows of the Alpina setup address this, otherwise you need either a Tii booster or very short trumpets.

Will those horns work with the original booster?
The Alfa GTA horns will not fit with the stock big booster. I tried them. The 1" (25mm) horns are the only horns that will clear the stock booster. I have a set available now that I went with Hal's rebuilt Tii booster. Here is a pic of the 25mm horns and the mesh screen covers.
