Dear Donald,

Thank you for your recent order from Pelican Parts. Unfortunately, one or more of the parts that you ordered are not available in stock within BMW's warehouses in the United States. They are available, fortunately, in BMW's main warehouse in Germany. We can order the parts for you from Germany, but there will unfortunately be a 10% surcharge on the cost of these parts only. Expected delivery time for these parts to our location in Los Angeles is approximately 3-5 weeks. The parts that are available in Germany are:

I was stuck in a FedEx office today waiting on an order. One of the staff was on the phone for 20 minutes with an irate customer who was blaming FedEx for a tariff bill that showed up. I could hear the customer screaming from 15 feet away. To the employee's credit, he stayed much calmer and polite than I would have. Finally got off the phone and said that was the 3rd one today. Can't wait for the midterms.

That raises an interesting question. In the past, when I have ordered parts from BMW via the parts desk at my local dealer, there has been no upcharge or shipping costs to get a part from overseas. If Pelican would basically do the same thing and not have an additional cost, are they just sticking it to their customers?

Has anyone gone to an actual BMW parts counter lately and purchased parts that had to be shipped over? Was there an additional cost? Last time I went was several years ago, before the current situation, but the parts I ordered had no shipping costs, even from Germany. They took their sweet time getting here, though.

Other side of same story;
For me, living in the EU, it is becoming more and more interesting to buy pistons from the US: a nice set of M90 pistons from Carillo has become ~12% cheaper....

Just wait, it will get even cheaper...as many countries stop buying US Treasury bonds and start pulling back gold and silver assets from the US government and banking institutions as they chase stability...we are likely in for a wild ride. I agree with the FedEx employee.
I think you are correct and I fear for the World Economy.

Yeah, I invested in CHF when the Orange Clown took over. Seems to have been a good bet.. and probably getting better

So, any of you switching from e9 to some local 70's detroit steel yet ? :-)

I feel you guys, hope it goes back to a zero tariff / normal soon.

It’s crossed my mind. My my first choice would be a 1965 Corvair Corsa turbo. Air-cooled boxer 6 cylinder 180 HP.
Mid-term elections will tell the tale…

I’m lucky- I sent money to Portugal for the house and to finance my daughter for residency.

But house values may start to drop as more Americans can’t deal with the rise of the euro.

Nah, too many Britts eyeing Portugal for a second house as well, trying to escape the fine English wet season (running from Jan 1st to dec 31st, ... usually)

I'm in on the Corsa! One of the prettiest cars ever built.

On the mid terms...they are likely to tell the tale of what the PEOPLE want, but last year's history tells me it may not actually BRING the change unfortunately.

Not totally sure I agree on the "most beautiful" part, but it is definitely one of the coolest US made cars to date.. One of those rare moments when somebody in Detroit got it right...

We had a family friend who was a total car nut. He had a Lotus Elan and a Corsa. The family car was a Monza station wagon..
