It is a tax on American consumers - pure and simple.. The latest from Pelican

Now to find the $292 BILLION.
THATS the problem. Who paid who how much on each tariff transaction? If an importer paid it initially (logical) how much of it did he pass on to the party he sold the goods to? How many other links in the supply chain were there for each step that absorbed some/all of the tariff? Were there additional costs to the consumer over and above the tariff, that were imposed by logistics providers (UPS and others)? Did the end consumer pay some/all of the tariff? If what was done was illegal, then of course everyone that paid more money for the item needs to be reimbursed. By whom? How? When?

I think Dan's question will take another Supreme Court ruling and at least another year.

well i think we know the answer - the lawyers who chase it will make 25 to 35% and the rest of the people who actually paid the tariffs will get a partial refund payment.

"The Guardian" is saying Trump will continue his tariff wars but on a much more restrained battlefield.

But let's look beyond this decision to the, I say again, stunning defeat. Perhaps three or four of the Justices who voted in the majority are saying, enough! We have given him the Constitution, we have given him immunity, we have given him his ballroom. Oops, we have not gotten into that yet, but we are finally coming to our senses.

Wow, this is a very big deal. So I wonder, do we get refunds on the crazy tariffs we have been paying get buy parts, ship our cars here from other countries, etc etc? I sure wouldn't mind the 10% I paid for my car back. I would invest that refund money in my car, thus stimulating the shops that work on it as well as the economy as a whole.

They've been preparing for this decision. They'll find or create loop holes to keep or set new tariffs(AKA: taxes). Ironically SCOTUS has given him the way out of the tariff mess but he won't take it, doing so would be admitting he was wrong.

"The Supreme Court’s decision to strike down President Trump’s International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) tariffs is a welcome victory for constitutional governance and the rule of law. But anyone hoping this spells the end of the administration’s tariff spree should think twice. Even without IEEPA, the president retains ample statutory authority to quickly recreate much of the current trade policy chaos."

Well at a suggestion from Don earlier in this thread I contested my UPS tariff charge which I had paid with PayPal. PayPal found in my favor and refunded the amount I had contested. We will see now if UPS tries to recollect but at least now they aren’t holding my money hostage. Here was my complaint info and their response:

What I wrote in my complaint - this was for about $1400 worth of items from W&N, who at least has been good about writing every HTS code for each item in the receipt they send:

The HTS code is indicated for each item and the total tariff should be the item cost x the tariff rate for that HTS code as noted at https://hts.usitc.gov/ plus the UPS handling fee. I am willing to pay the correct amount once there is an itemized receipt from UPS with each line item noted. Currently the charge was made as 50% of the total cost with no invoice from UPS, just a flat 50% charge, which is incorrect by the current tariff rules
Correct amount:$233.96 USD
