Can someone tell me if I ordered the wrong clutch kit or not to use with my clutch fork?

The new throw out bearing in the Sachs Clutch kit (K70009-1) I ordered is different than the one I just took out of the car. I didn't inspect this until just now after opening the box.
Images of the old and new bearing with fork and the Clutch Kit part number

Thanks for the help!!

I had an issue with the clutch kit I ordered from FCP Euro. I’ll post the email I sent them since it summarizes the problem - perhaps yours is the same issue?

I ordered the Sachs Clutch Kit Item KF137-02 as part of order R656983537.
I went to install this kit this weekend and although the kit says that it fits a 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi, these vehicles use a 240mm clutch and pressure plate. The items in the kit are a 215mm clutch and pressure plate. I can't see what items are supposed to be in this kit on the website, so I'm not sure whether the kit is correct but the parts inside are wrong, or whether this is just the wrong kit overall.

I had already ordered mine through Walloth this is how I figured out what was what. There are definitely two different fork but I do not know at what point they switched.

Someone smarter than me can chime in with the correct information.

Based on the Carl Nelson conversion document, I think you can use the same throw out bearing? The fork is different but the inner portion looks the same. My issue was that the clutch was also the wrong size in the kit I ordered.

that's another thing I need to double check now is the size. thanks for the heads up @e9Leveque. Im really now under the time crunch to get the car ready if I have to order new parts tomorrow.

Doesn't seem like I can use the new throw out bearing. the contact points with the fork are at different measurements

Finding a correct-sized clutch was a bit challenging. The kit I had ordered from FCP was perhaps $250? In the end I ordered the clutch from Ireland Engineering, which they source from Clutchmasters. The price was the same and they had it in stock. But more expensive than Sachs.
And I’m with you on the time crunch - I want to be able to attend our gathering at the end of the month with my E9. I’m chasing an overheating issue at the moment.

I need this PN 21511204225 for the throw out bearing not 21517521471, which came with the kit. Luckily Rock Auto has a Sachs one for like $50.
Confirmed the clutch disc and pressure plate in the Sachs K70009-1 kit is the right size 240mm. Easy enough.

If you need any help hit me up. Once I get my trans and clutch refresh done I'm free. Almost there except for this minor set back.

Yes that is the part number I ordered and it worked fine. Let me know how the trans swap goes - my first was a bit grindy in 1st and 2nd and had a bit of a rattle. Found another that is working better

Kyle,
Yeah that TO bearing is for later style fork/bell housing that used the later style clutch slave. I believe they changed in the 74 model year 4 speeds and were the same on later on 5 speeds. Pressure plates and clutch disks stayed the same.
In the photo below, you needed #1 but you got #5

Where did you order the clutch kit?

Hmmm so as someone with the later style bellhiusing and newer clutch slave do I need 5 and not 1 for my 5-speed? The car seems to run and shift ok (in its brief rides around the block thus far). Hoping I don’t need to drop transmission yet again…

If you have a 265/6 5speed you’ll need number 5.

If you car is shifting fine you must have the correct bearing. The early style bearing and/or fork would not work at all with the later bell housing.
This is the later style clutch slave your 5 speed should have

Great information here.

John… that was the diagram I remember now.

I do know I have the small clutch disc which to me just seemed so small but again… 2800 flywheel etc.

I checked the PN of the one I took out of the car. Says 204225.

Hey John I ordered the Sachs kit from Rock auto but they sell the exact same one at FCP and ECS

Rock Auto is a great source as long as you stick to name brand parts. I always check there when I’m searching. Prices are very competitive. I’ve bought lots of parts from them over the years. I’ve got the refrigerator magnets to prove it. But a few times I’ve gotten parts that were not correct. RM European, Autohauz AZ, FCP Euro, Partsgeek are others I check and have ordered from
