Sunvisor pivot movement

Does the sunvisor pivot horizontally towards the window besides downward?

I purchased a new pivot to replace the cracked exisiting, removed the exisiting by loosening the single screw, rotating, and withdrawing. But the new pivot seems stuck. I've taken off the captive nut, spring, washer in the thought that there's too much tension. My next step would be to free the pivot arm in some manner, but wanted to make sure I wasn't re-engineering the part to do something it's not supposed to do. Since it's plastic, I didn't want to apply undue force.

Thoughts?
 
Yes, it is meant to swing to the side, but I don't risk that manuever with my visors as the pivots can be very brittle. They are also so small they don't provide much protection anyway.

I'm with Chris.

Just wear a hat with a visor when driving your coupe in the early morning / late afternoon. Hope no one you know sees you when you have the thing on sideways to block light coming in the side window!

Thanks guys. If only, I could convince the co-pilot......she's even more picky.
 
I occasionally flip mine down but have never taken them out of their clips. My copilot is well trained on same as well as how to shut the door without using the window etc etc :mrgreen:

My wife is well indoctrinated in coupe etiquette and she would rather drive it as well rather than be the passenger but she is a little intimidated by its value.

i found the same problem, it seems to be impossible to rotate it horizontally towards the window, and yes, the plastic is really weak and brittle, so simply don´t try to do it

Slapshot,

Look for a single screw on the visor, near the pivot. This goes to a clamp inside. just tighten it gently.

by the way: would you be so kind to tell me in which accademy or school of etiquette this particular issue is taught ?, i have a candidate to attend the next course :-D:-D:-D
 
... I have a candidate as well. Perhaps we can get a volume discount? Our specialty is "not adjusting the driver side door mirror in a manner that lifts it right off its mount."
 
Unfortunately there is long waiting list of applicants for this particular university. Students must be nominated by their husband/significant other and must be willing to study and master a diverse set of classes including: Detailing 101, History of Microfiber Towels, How to Ingress/Egress a Coupe Without Leaving Fingerprints, Enjoying Twisting Roads as a Passenger, How to Read the Dash Warning Lights for Potential Signs of Trouble, Closing Doors Without Slamming and many others.

that last skill is the most difficult to master, as there is a very fine line on our cars between slamming and applying just the right amount of force to get the door to close the first time.
 
ah yes.... the "PLEASE DON'T SLAM THE DOOR FOR THE UMPTEENTH HUNDRED TIME" course. Almost forgot about that one. Probably because it is hopeless. I think it is part of the whole xx chromosome package. They are hard wired to take the doors right off the hinges, and not just on our delicate old E9s. My poor RS6 suffers through it on a daily basis. Thank you Audi (and BMW, of course) for realizing this fact of nature and building new cars to withstand that treatment.

and what about a post-doc in ?:

-closing doors without slamming, understanding the divine mass/force equilibrium

-ingressing without fingerprinting and/or rubber-profile foot-scratching

-non complaining about noise, petrol smelling, or rapid changing internal environmental conditions (unexpected air flows, sudden heat/cool sensations,...)

-assuming the prescribed delay time between engine start and car starting movement

-periodic unconscious rapid temperature glancing

-intelligent listening to noises in a vast frequency ranges coupled with the eigency modes of all rotational mechanisms and devices comprised in the coupe

and so on ....:-D

...and the need for full understanding of replacement cost/lack of availability of delicate interior pieces! I like how this thread has devolved into this sensitive subject!
