Visor restoration glue

Yes, Yes. Instant type. Use the primer (Hepthane based) or clean it with your favorite brand just to help create a better bond.

A drop at a time so you can keep the seam tight. Goes faster than you think.

Locktite or Wonderbond brand here.

Same procedure for very early Porsche. Same frame as a matter of fact.

I would use 3m upholstery glue. I would first glue a strip of vinyl along the top of the opening (over the foam) and then glue two pieces together over the vinyl strip, make sense? 3m upholstery glue won't eat the foam.

ok, now is done !

I used loctite 401

it won´t eat the foam, ok lets say "my foam", because there are different foams, here is a test: it only acts in the close surface of the foam like melting it down a bit, but it stops there
this is a foam used for upholstery purposes

so the work is very straight forward as jerry said, it goes very fast, i used my fingers and a screwdriver to pressa little the top while pressing the laterals with my fingers (this way i avoid my fingers touching the excess of glue potruding the joint), i started from one end, in small increments of one or two centimetres a time:

Great work! What type of foam did you use? I think more on the line of what is the 'technical' name of the foam?

Regards, Alberto

i am very sorry alberto, i can not get any specs of the foam, it was the one that i found in the car upholstery shop
just to sqy that it is 1cm thick and it feels a bit stiff under the pressure of your fingers
i think that this is the sort of thing that you can not buy online, but you have to touch with your fingers

DeQ, I don't know what you do for a living, but if I were you I'd be putting together a restoration manual for the E9 if you find yourself unemployed! I would pay good money for a copy.

dj_efk,

Great idea for DeQ. I, among probably 90% of the owners on this site and probably 100 more via eBay would certainly be interested in such a manual. Especially if it could easily be updated by printing new PDF (or similar) pages off this forum.

THANKS AGAIN DeQuincy for all you do for 'us'.

Very helpful. The pics of the exposed metal frame inside the foam helped me fix mine without having to take it all apart. Thank you DQ.
