the plastic piece is in place and in good condition as is the carbon "button". my problem is how to connect the spade end of the wire so it is solidly mounted in the plastic sleeve shown in your pics.
It's there and the plastic housing is there, they are in two pieces however. My uncanny ability to determine the obvious tellls me something is broken. What is a good source for this item or do I resort to jb weld?
@bavagain ; I have access to one (e9, e3 is identical i hope? ) nearby, it would be 60usd to get it shipped to me and onwards to the US. Let me know if that is interesting.
Thanks, Mine is complete and in good condition except for being in two pieces. This car is in no way a concours car, I believe I'll go the jb weld route
if the carbon stick is in 2 pieces ... not gonna work no matter what you do. if its the plastic only in 2 pieces, a good glue is your friend. nobody is ever going to see this piece as its always covered by the steering wheel + its cover. the only issues is if the carbon rod doesn't make contact with the horn ring, your horn will go off on its own. as i remember, and its been a while since i've looked at one, the carbon rod attaches to the spade with a small spring (at the bottom of the housing), so it will maintain contact with the horn ring. if you don't have a spade connector as shown in thread #5, you probably don't have an internal spring either
Got into my Bav the other night, put the hot pizza on the passenger seat, cranked it up and started to back out. Suddenly there's someone honking at me, so I'm checking all my mirrors for someone else approaching. It was pretty loud, so I knew he was close. Nobody there. It took me a while to figure out that it was my horn blowing, so I pulled the relay and went home. Got to checking for the cause and discovered that the spring-loaded contact that rides on the back of the steering wheel hub was broken right at the outer tip. A trip to realoem says it's not available anymore, so it's...
I cracked my old contact when I was doing some work on the steering column. While i was waiting for a new one to arrive I put the pieces back in place and mixed up a brew of super/crazy glue and baking soda. This makes a strong, fast setting adhesive. While it looks very "industrial" you can't see it with the steering wheel in place and it has been working just fine for the past year or longer. I have the new one ready if this one ever decides to fall apart.
