What's different about a Swedish engine?

Replacement engine documentation See attached photos of warranty book, part number, shipping label (Didn't know these were assembled in S. Africa), and a bad photo of the block. Head cast in 1986. So far so good...

The Vintage in Asheville, NC May 20-22

Painful idea The Blue Ridge Parkway sounds romantic and fun but it's really agony in a driver's car. The legal speed limit never exceeds 35 mph. Even if you're willing to break the law, the lack of any straightaways (i.e. you can never see more than about 200 feet ahead), combined with a...

What's different about a Swedish engine?

Hey Al, I'd be happy to take a look at the car for you. After this week's "storm of the century" however. Let me know where it is and we'll proceed from there.

What's different about a Swedish engine?

Hi all! Updating the results of my plea for engine replacement help earlier this week. First I want to thank everyone who provided advice and help, especially HB Chris who offered me an amazingly generous deal on his extra engine. Thank you all! While I did not hit the Powerball lottery...

Aargh, Now I'm in deep doo-doo. Really need help!

Hi all! Got the worst news possible. Taking the engine apart for what was scheduled/hoped to be a "simple" head job. But once in there things went from bad to worse. Everything observable is terribly worn. At least 2 of the cylinders are badly scored. So I'm thinking that my choices are...

NY: Vintage BWA (Italian) Mesh Wheels 16x7

Unlike Andrew, I'm a serial monogamist. Fall in love with a set of wheels. After a couple of years on the car, I fall out of love and begin to lust after a different set. Sell the current paramour to fund the new love. Rinse, repeat.

    The time has come...

So here we are: the coupe (a basic 3.0 CS) needs a top-end rebuild. The good news is that I have an experienced E9 mechanic who I trust to do the job correctly and carefully. He's working up an estimate for me as we speak. My one question is whether anyone sells rebuilt heads and, if so...

    Cars & Coffee NH

Representin' the Mid-Atlantic Decided to end the driving season with a cruise through the fall foliage from PA to NH. Will be there with the coupe and my wife (who was bribed with promises of antiquing along the way). Look forward to seeing everyone in a couple of weeks.

Can you exaggerate the description any more??

Huh??? "Especially since this car was only offered to the European market..." Must be dreaming, as I'm almost certain I bought new - right here in the good old US of A - a 1980 320is with the legendary M10 engine, blah, blah, blah. Ain't marketing a grand exercise in altering reality?

    Wood veneer care

I use a product called 303. It reduces the vinyl "sheen" so that it more closely matches the leather finish of the seats (assuming you don't aggressive shine up your leather). Good stuff, though a bit pricier than Vinylex.

How do I know if I dodged the bullet? (longish)

Warning: This story is not for the weak of stomach or the faint of heart! Took the coupe on a 10 mile ride drive to pick up some spark plugs. Warmed up and ran normally. From there I drove 5 miles to a nearby town to drop off a package for a friend. That drive was high speed and high-rpm on...

    Tire Philosophy

Vredestein experience Stan, I have Vredestein Classics on my tii. Replaced very aged Pirelli P4000s. Have been very satisfied with performance both in terms of cornering and braking (note: turn in is much much sharper with a tii than a coupe). Noise has not been any worse than the...

    The Vintage 2015 Winston-Salem NC, May 22-24

"Not Show Quality"????? I've been to all but three Vintages. And nowhere, ever, has this event presented itself as a concours event or a "car show." It was, is and, hopefully, will remain a "gathering of vintage BMWs" (see the text on every year's poster) and their owners. This process of...

Would like some advice on this CSi

little chrome hole plugs I'm thinking this is Roger Jones' old car. If so, I bought him the chrome plugs to fill the license plate holes. (He had 4 holes, as both European and U.S. plates were fitted at various times.) Believe it or not, I got ones that fit perfectly at a True Value...
