1969 2800 E3 - Bringing "The White Car" back to life!

Took the head off with the exhaust manifolds and one down pipe still attached. Manifold and down pipe nuts we're stripped and the head bolts were really gunked up and one didn't even come out yet. Some water jackets are clogged and the oil jackets are filthy. I have another engine I'm going to check out since I wouldn't feel right using this one without completely going through it.

The 2800s have the 9.0:1 compression ratio, you can see the piano top pistons and the large peanut shaped cooling passages.

I didn't have a pressure tester so I turned the head upside down, closed the valves on #5 and poured mineral spirits in the chamber. It immediately started dripping out the exhaust port. Drip...drip...drip... My friend uses a machine shop in town that he likes so I'll have them check it out.

Man, you guys are tough. I'm here trying to do as little amount of work possible and whine about as much as I can and you guys are being all logical about it. ;-)

Starting to remove hydraulics and got to the clutch master... I hope the engineer who designed the mounting got moved to detailing cars afterwards. Who puts a regular non self fastened nut and bolt through a firewall? You have to clamp the nut on the inside and loosen the bolt from the engine side. It's a two man job putting it back on. Jeez.

On a plus side, the under dash of this car looks amazing, including the cardboard divider next to the fuse area.

Deshevled. Sometimes you have to move backwards before moving forward.

While you are in there clean and scuff up the engine bay and paint it, you won’t get a better opportunity than now and won’t regret it.
